the caren boogerton series
Deborah McDaniel lives in Cleveland, Ohio with her son, Calvin Kelly and grandson, Carter Kelly. She was born, Deborah Marbury to parents, Clinton and Inez Marbury in Cleveland, Ohio just a couple of weeks before the historic March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous, I Have A Dream speech in August, 1963 and two (2) months before the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
These two (2) historic events and people have had an indelible mark on Deborah's life because she grew up knowing the importance of these two (2) people and events for the African American community. Her parents instilled in her that because of the sacrifices that these two (2) individuals made for the advancement of the Negro, the Black, the African American race, education was a most valuable commodity.
Deborah graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1981. She obtained an associate degree in Office Administration from The University of Akron, a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Education in Adult Education from Cleveland State University.
She wrote for the Call and Post Newspaper in 1990, and spent fifteen (15) years of her life teaching high school English, starting in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and ending her career as a teacher in the Warrensville Heights City School District where she taught for twelve (12) years.
She now works for her publishing and production company, Light Up the Night, LLC, and she is developing its non-profit arm, Well-Watered Women, an organization designed to minister to single mothers, married women, divorced women and women in ministry.
Producing novels, stage plays as well as screenplays is her focus, and her works center around fictional character, Caren Boogerton, a back-slider and an amateur sleuth, who is on a ten-year journey back to God while solving murder mysteries. Her stories illustrate the consequences of sexual immorality and the power of prayer. She calls her stories Urban Inspirational Mysteries because they are a little 'street' with a faith message that takes you on a quest to find a killer!
She published her first novel, What You Do in the Dark in June 2002, her second novel, Am I My Brother's Keeper? in May 2005, which is the same month and year, she was licensed to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ by her father-in-law, Pastor Emeritus, Karious McDaniel, who was at that time, the pastor of United Missionary Baptist Church.
In November of 2015, she released her much anticipated third novel of the Caren Boogerton Series, Sins of the Father!
